So sad to see a Barn owl die this way, Don’t get me wrong the death was not intentional or even deliberate, it died being fed cold meat, This is why I have decided to show you what can happen to Barn owls if you feed them with cold meat..................( SOME PEOPLE WILL DO IT ) It only takes 10 day if you do not act fast for the bird to die. Feeding barn owls cold meat is a killer the complex digestion system can not handle such chills, so do not under any circumstances feed cold meat to the Tyto Family of owls, in fact to any family of owls, the meat should be completely defrosted be at room temperature before it is given to the owls, the sign’s are, inside of the legs start to have what looks like a chalk substance stuck to the feathers, after a day or two chalk balls form between the legs by the vent, as soon as you see any sign of chalk clean the area until all the chalk has gone and put in a warm place for a week only room temperature meat from now on until it recovers and it will if you have acted fast if you leave it the bird will die like the one above, dip one or two bits of MEAT IN WARM WATER, then feed. This will replace lost water and help to stop dehydration. DO NOT FEED COLD MEAT FROM THE FRIDGE TO BARN OWLS.
