Harris Hawk Feb 14th  2008

This is caused by the bird hitting wire at force and trying to get out, left untreated it will look horrid it may become infected, it also has a Talon that has grown strait and not as it should, this bird is a Female Harris Hawk. That should never have gotten into this state.

It will be fine after months of treatment,

YOUR DONATION WILL HELP US TO HELP THEM,

HOBBY 21st July 2008

I had a call from a vets in Herne Bay, Kent, to say they had a bird of prey that was injured and needed after care they were not sure what it was,  look for your self what it was, they filled my forms in and stamped it with the surgeries stamp, the bird was suffering from sheer exhaustion, no broken bones, it was collected on the 21 July 2008. I phoned DEFRA to let them know I have an injured schedule 4 bird and needed a licence to keep it in my possession until it was to be releases again this was all sorted out.

After 9 Days recuperation feeding twice a day not letting it see were the food was coming from day by day gaining strength for the big day, Bathed, Dried, fed, THIS IS THE MOMENT it was set free and did it go like a bullet from a gun, fit ready for life again, yes it was uniquely marked with a number so I will know if ever I get it again,

Good hunting little kimosabby.

GIVE WATER TO BIRDS IN HOT WEATHER

July 16 th at 0920hrs ring on the door, a young girl that had this little munchskin all alone in a box, she was in tears and asked can we please take care of it and let her know when it is ready to go back into the wild.

July 18th, Ring ring. Can you take these 2 Budgies please. We will bring them over now if that’s o.k.

If you find a baby bird all alone, chirping away to it’s self

Looking sad, not knowing what to do,

DONT LET IT FOOL YOU, it needs a couple of days out of the nest to strengthen the wings before it can fly as good as mom & Dad, don’t pick it up the parents are not far away ready to feed it, if you get out of the way quickly she will feed it quicker, the first defence for a baby bird is open its beak and say cheep cheep, feed me feed me. It doesn't know anything else yet mom hasn't told him all the dangers. So I say would you be kind enough and Leave them alone please mom knows they are there, THANK YOU >>>>>

BACK TO THE WILDBACK TO THE WILDBACK TO THE WILDBACK TO THE WILD

Photo taken Sept 3rd 2008, As you can see

All is o.k. now,

Female Sparrow Hawk September 4th 2008

Again from Herne Bay Kent. (from the vets)

This Bird has no movement in either leg from the hips but has slight movement in the feet and toes,  a frightened sparrow Hawk will lay back with out stretched legs ready for defence, it seems to be the same symptoms African greys get but with out weight loss..........we will try antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory let you know in a couple of weeks or so ...

X-rays show no damage to any bones in the legs or pelvic area, so the damage could be either nerve or soft tissues (muscles}. You must remember sparrow hawks are highly strung birds of prey and could die all of a sudden, for no apparent reason .  Weight when came in 0 - 7.6 oz.

We will show you more pictures of this bird as it progresses, or dies, We will try our utmost to make this bird survive it will need a lot of handling and will make this bird depend on humans for food this will make it semi imprinted there for being unfit to return back to the wild, as we are a rescue centre we will use this bird for educational purposes and acquire the A10 for displaying to the public.

Some people will say it is best to put the bird down, If we do that we will never understand the problem this bird has there for we will never be able to help, cure future birds with the same problem so that we can  send them back to where they should be the wild........................................

14 days of constant physiotherapy 4 times a day, and force feeding, These pictures were taken after 20 days, gaining strength day by day it feeds itself and holds its own food, uses its legs and feet as good as new,  it will be sent back to the wild on Sunday  in the same place it was found, we look forwards for the day it goes back

29th September 2008,

After 25 Days of care,

the Sparrow Hawk was set free

To fly the sky of England once more, lets hope it has a long life.
