Take a look at the femur of the animal the ball is rounded on the top unlike that of the bird that is more to the side, the bone is hollow and filled with what looks like a spiders web making the bone a lot stronger, it is developed  this way over time to makes the bone lighter and helping  the bird to fly and stay in the air longer.
