This was the most daring rescue that Many Hoots had ever gone on. Two of us went on the mission myself and an off duty Police man Ian Jenkins. The weather was bad, gale force 8 winds, it took the pilot boat 50 minutes to reach the ship on its way to Holland. Once we was alongside the ship the skipper of the pilot boat said when the boat rises jump and catch the rope ladder that the crew from the ship had lowered. I asked if I fell in how long will I live for, he held up to fingers, I take that to be 2 hours, he said no 2 minutes. I never had a life jacket on, But I managed to get the bird as you can see. It went to its owner who lived in Norfolk England. |
